IUI Treatment : Helping Couples Achieve Parenthood

The fertility treatments which involves the placing of sperms inside a woman’s uterus to facilitate easy and sure fertilization is known as IUI (intrauterine insemination). The main aim of IUI is to increase the number of sperms which reach the fallopian tubes and also to increase the chance of fertilization.

IUI provides an added advantage to the sperm by giving it a head start. But the sperm has to reach and fertilize the egg on its own. It is a comparatively less complicated and less expensive option when compared to in vitro fertilization.

http://infertility-center-madurai.com/assisted-reproductive-technique-iui.html

When is IUI used?

  • Unexplained infertility
  • A severe cervical condition
  • Scars on the cervix from the past procedures may hinder the sperms ability to enter the uterus
  • Ejaculation dysfunction

IUI Procedure

Before IUI, a few ovulation stimulating medications are made use of. Later careful and continuous monitoring will be done to determine when the eggs are correctly mature. The IUI procedure will then be performed during the time of ovulation, typically about 24-36 hours after the increased levels of LH hormone which indicates that ovulation will occur soon.

A catheter will be used to insert the sperm directly into the uterus. This process increases the possibility of conception by increasing the number of sperms that are placed in the uterus. The IUI procedure consumes only a few minutes and involves minimal discomfort.

How successful is IUI?

The success of IUI depends on several factors. If a couple has the IUI procedure performed every month, success rates may reach up to about 20% per cycle depending on different aspects such as female age, the reason for infertility and the use of fertility drugs.

What To Expect During Pregnancy Period?

Pregnancy, though a marvellous occasion, is also a period of great transformation to the body and mind of the woman. You grow from simply being a woman to a mother. The family itself undergoes a change, to welcome and accommodate the new member. What to expect during pregnancy period is a common concern among women.

http://infertility-center-madurai.com/what-to-expect-at-pregnancy-period.html

Pregnancy brings unprecedented changes to a woman’s physique and feeling. The hormones start their activity for the proper growth and development of the baby even before you realise you are carrying one. It is always better to understand the changes that are going to occur, to adapt better and to contribute to the development of the baby.

Physical Changes

The initial symptom of pregnancy is missing periods. This is one of the main factors that could clue you in. Another common symptom is morning sickness. It can strike you at any time during day or night and can start as soon as by the third week of conception. The nausea and vomiting is due to increased hormonal activity and can be reduced to some extent by reducing the quantity of food intake while increasing the number of meals.

Pregnant women are more sensitive to smell and taste. The hormonal changes cause tender or sore breasts as well. The increased level of progesterone demands more sleep, so increasing sleep hours and short nap times will be ideal. The first trimester can be one of fatigue; however you would most likely regain your energy by the second trimester.

Emotional Changes

Pregnancy is a period of great happiness for a woman. However, it is a period of high hormonal activity which can make you highly sensitive as well. You would have your share of mood swings while adjusting to the new role of imminent motherhood.

People are reluctant to change initially. This might cause some struggle when you are trying to fit into different roles. Motherhood could temporarily affect your role as a wife. However an open communication can simply clear the air for a happy family.

Pregnancy period is one that requires utmost care. Frequent medical checkups and nutritional, dietary requirements are necessary for a healthy mother and baby.

When To See Your Gynaec?

Usually we think of a gynaecologist visit only in relation with pregnancy. It is not to be so. In a time when female infertility rates stand at about 10% of the total world population, a better awareness of one’s reproductive health, is the need of the day.

Although a regular gynaec check-up is advisable to all women above 21 years, it is not a feasible option in most households in our country. However, keeping a close watch on our body for irregularities and consulting a gynaecologist, in case of any, could compensate for it.

Most of us are confused about when to see your gynaec? Here’s a guide to help you overcome that dilemma.

Reasons to Consult a Gynaecologist

It is always better to be safe than sorry. Even if you feel it’s a false alarm, get yourself checked-up to be on the safe side. The symptoms that needs an expert attention are as follows: -

Abdominal Discomfort – though abdominal cramps and pain can occur due to digestive problems as well, the chances for a reproductive system issue cannot be avoided. Severe, unbearable and persistent pain needs attention as they may be caused due to conditions like endometriosis and so on that can affect fertility.
Pelvic Pain – pelvic pain can be a sign of conditions related to pelvic inflammation disorders or prolapses. Persistent pelvic pain symptoms need to be checked out by a qualified doctor.
Irregular periods – though irregular periods are common in adolescence, in a woman, they can indicate an irregularity that could affect her fertility. The irregular periods symptoms include abnormal, heavy or light bleeding, missed periods, menstrual cycles spanning less than 21 days or greater than 40 days, bleeding in between cycle or after menopause and so on.
Soreness or unusual discharge from genital area – theses could indicate an infection and needs to be checked up at the earliest.
Urinary and bowel movement irregularities – these could symbolise pelvic problems which needs to be treated early.
Infertility – an inability to conceive successfully after regular unprotected intercourse for a year indicates some irregularities in fertility and needs medical assistance.

Don't Lose Hope.. Your Motherhood Is Possible..

With many treatment options for female infertility available today, the one that suits the needs of the patient’s condition needs to be applied. A good fertility clinic with expert doctors and consultants can contribute highly in this.

Successful Infertility Treatment Directives

The lifestyle changes that we have acquired over the years are known to be a main reason for the rising cases of infertility being reported worldwide. A tweak in our lifestyle might help increase our chances of a successful treatment, without resorting to intensive therapy or treatment. Some of the lifestyle changes are as follows.

  • Controlling body weight – an increase in body weight leading to obesity is a main concern for fertility. Improper weight loss can also weaken the body leading to infertility issues
  • No exposure to smoking and alcohol – smoking and alcohol can destroy one’s fertility capability
  • Reducing over exercise or physical activity – though regular exercise helps in ensuring health, an over exercise has exactly the opposite result
  • Limit the use of medications and caffeine intake
  • Reduce stress with the help of meditation and yoga

Essential Steps to a Healthy Pregnancy

http://www.infertility-center-madurai.com/what-can-a-woman-do-to-promote-a-healthy-pregnancy.php

Regular intake of folic acid: Begin or continue to take at least 400 micrograms of folic acid by taking vitamin supplements every day to reduce the child’s risk of neural tube defects. Also, it is difficult to get all the folic acid you need only from food. Most prenatal vitamins contain 400 micrograms of folic acid.
Do not use alcohol, tobacco or drugs in any form: Drinking alcohol, smoking, and taking drugs during pregnancy can increase the child’s risk for problems such as foetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASDs), sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) and other life threatening problems. FASDs have a variety of effects on the foetus which result due to the mother drinking alcohol during pregnancy. Smoking tobacco, smoking marijuana, exposure to second-hand smoke and taking drugs during pregnancy can also harm the foetus and affect infant health.
Talk to your doctor about medications: Most of the women take four or more medications during pregnancy. Talk to your doctor about the prescribed medications and herbal and vitamin supplements. Certain medications and some dietary or herbal supplements can harm the foetus during pregnancy.
Avoid exposure to toxic substances: During pregnancy, exposure to radiation, pesticides, some metals and certain types of chemicals can cause birth defects, premature birth and miscarriage. A few examples of exposures that are known to be toxic to the developing foetus are lead, radiation and solvents.
Follow a healthy diet: Choose different types of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and dairy products to help ensure the developing foetus gets all the nutrients it needs. Make sure you also drink plenty of water. Consult the doctor to learn more about how much you should eat during pregnancy, the nutrients required and how much caffeine is safe to drink.
Eat a safe diet: Avoid certain foods such as raw fish, undercooked meat, deli meat, papaya and unpasteurized cheeses. Do not consume anything which you are not comfortable eating.
Limit caffeine intake: Too much caffeine can increase the risk of miscarriage. Talk to the doctor about the amount of caffeine you get from coffee, tea, or soda. A limit of 200 milligrams per day is advisable.
Talk to the doctor about physical activity:  Most women can continue regular physical activity throughout pregnancy. Regular physical activity will help you feel better physically and mentally, sleep better and prepare your body for birth.
Maintain a healthy weight: Gaining too much or too little weight during pregnancy increases the risk of different problems for both the mother and the infant. Following a healthy diet and getting regular physical exercise can help you stay within the recommended weight. The amount of weight you should gain during pregnancy depends on your pre-pregnancy weight and body mass index (BMI).

Overcome the Barriers and Build Your Family

Male Infertility refers to a man’s inability to cause pregnancy in a fertile female partner. A man’s fertility generally depends on the quantity and quality of the sperm. If the number of sperms a man ejaculates is less or if the quality of sperms is poor, it will be difficult and sometimes impossible, for him to cause a pregnancy.

http://www.infertility-center-madurai.com/treatment-for-infertility-male.php

Infertility is a widespread problem. For about one couple in five infertile couples the problem lies only because of the male partner. It is estimated that one in 20 men have some or the other kind of fertility problem with low numbers of sperm in the ejaculate. However, only about one in every 100 men has no traces sperm in his ejaculate.

Male infertility is usually caused due to the problems that affect either the sperm production or the sperm transport. Only through medical testing, the doctor will be able to find the cause of the problem.

About two-thirds of infertile men have a problem with producing the sperm in the testes. Either low numbers of sperm are made or the sperm that are made do not function properly.

Sperm transportation problems are found in about one in every five infertile men, including men who have undergone a vasectomy but now wish to have more children. Blockages in the tubes leading sperm away from the testes towards the penis can cause a complete lack of sperm in the ejaculated semen.
Other less common causes of infertility include: sexual problems that affect whether semen is able to enter the woman’s vagina for fertilisation to take place; low levels of hormones made in the pituitary gland that act on the testes and sperm antibodies. In most men, the sperm antibodies will not affect the chance of a pregnancy but in some men sperm antibodies reduce fertility.
  • Avoid smoking as it alters sperm DNA.
  • Avoid heavy drugs and alcohol intake.
  • Avoiding excessive heat to the testes.
  • Wearing a jockstrap to protect the testicles in any sports.

Treatments will vary according to the underlying disease and the degree of the impairment of the male fertility. Pre-testicular conditions can often be addressed by medical means or interventions. Testicular-based male infertility tends resists medication. Usual approaches include using the sperm for intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Obstructive causes of post-testicular infertility can be overcome with either surgery or IVF-ICSI. Ejaculatory factors may be treatable by medication, or by IUI therapy or IVF.
