Fertilization and Embryo Culture: The eggs are evaluated for its quality and maturity. Selected eggs are placed in the laboratory and then transferred into an incubator. Embryo Transfer and Cryopreservation: After the egg retrieval one or more embryos are implanted in the uterus. If the embryos are excess those will be frozen for future use. About two weeks is required to determine whether the pregnancy is achieved.
 

GIFT (gamete intrafallopian transfer) and zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT) are other two procedures of IVF. GIFT is a method of egg harvesting as with IVF and mixing with sperm, then injected into the fallopian tube where the fertilization occurs.
