2. Egg retrieval : For retrieving the eggs, ultrasound-guided probe is inserted to the vagina by the doctor. A needle is then used to suck liquid from a small gland (follicles) and lot of eggs are retrieved.
3. Fertilization and embryo culture : In this stage, maturity and quality of the eggs are evaluated. Eggs which are selected after evaluation are transferred into a closed apparatus in which small babies are placed. Then inseminated with sperm, either by injecting a single sperm into the egg or by placing sperm together with the egg.
4. One or more embryos are implanted in the uterus following egg retrieval (after 1 - 6 days). Excess embryos may be frozen and saved for future use. It takes about 2 weeks to determine if pregnancy has been achieved.
