Overcome the Barriers and Build Your Family

Male Infertility refers to a man’s inability to cause pregnancy in a fertile female partner. A man’s fertility generally depends on the quantity and quality of the sperm. If the number of sperms a man ejaculates is less or if the quality of sperms is poor, it will be difficult and sometimes impossible, for him to cause a pregnancy.

Infertility is a widespread problem. For about one couple in five infertile couples the problem lies only because of the male partner. It is estimated that one in 20 men have some or the other kind of fertility problem with low numbers of sperm in the ejaculate. However, only about one in every 100 men has no traces sperm in his ejaculate.

Male infertility is usually caused due to the problems that affect either the sperm production or the sperm transport. Only through medical testing, the doctor will be able to find the cause of the problem.

About two-thirds of infertile men have a problem with producing the sperm in the testes. Either low numbers of sperm are made or the sperm that are made do not function properly.

Sperm transportation problems are found in about one in every five infertile men, including men who have undergone a vasectomy but now wish to have more children. Blockages in the tubes leading sperm away from the testes towards the penis can cause a complete lack of sperm in the ejaculated semen.
Other less common causes of infertility include: sexual problems that affect whether semen is able to enter the woman’s vagina for fertilisation to take place; low levels of hormones made in the pituitary gland that act on the testes and sperm antibodies. In most men, the sperm antibodies will not affect the chance of a pregnancy but in some men sperm antibodies reduce fertility.
  • Avoid smoking as it alters sperm DNA.
  • Avoid heavy drugs and alcohol intake.
  • Avoiding excessive heat to the testes.
  • Wearing a jockstrap to protect the testicles in any sports.

Treatments will vary according to the underlying disease and the degree of the impairment of the male fertility. Pre-testicular conditions can often be addressed by medical means or interventions. Testicular-based male infertility tends resists medication. Usual approaches include using the sperm for intrauterine insemination (IUI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), or IVF with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Obstructive causes of post-testicular infertility can be overcome with either surgery or IVF-ICSI. Ejaculatory factors may be treatable by medication, or by IUI therapy or IVF.

IVF : Helping You to Become Parents

IVF (In vitro Fertilization) is the Famous Procedure for Infertility. IVF treatment blessed many couples with babies. IVF is done with women own eggs/donor eggs and sperm/donor sperm. In vitro fertilization mainly helps to treat damaged and blocked fallopian tubes, endometriosis, cervical issues, male and unexplained infertility problems.

It is the process of combining eggs with sperms in a Petri dish in a sterile place, laboratory. Once the fertilization is over, the embryos are transferred into women uterus and the pregnancy is carried out.

IVF is recommended when the following condition exists
  • Diminished Ovarian Function or fallopian tube damage
  • Endometriosis
  • Anovulation and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
  • Unexplained infertility
  • Age Related Infertility Problems
  • Those who are at risk of genetic disease such as cystic fibrosis
The IVF cycle has four standards.

Ovarian stimulation: For producing multiple eggs hyperstimulation drugs such as Clomiphene is prescribed. Human Chorionic gonadotropin is given to nourish the egg maturation after 8-14 days.

Egg retrieval: After the hCG injection the eggs are retrieved within 34-36 hours. The OBG uses an ultrasound guided probe into the vagina for egg retrieval. With the help of a thin needle, the liquid is drained from the follicles.

Fertilization and Embryo Culture: The eggs are evaluated for its quality and maturity. Selected eggs are placed in the laboratory and then transferred into an incubator. The sperms and eggs are either place together for infusion or single sperm is injected into the egg. Thus insemination is performed.

Embryo Transfer and Cryopreservation: After the egg retrieval one or more embryos are implanted in the uterus. If the embryos are excess those will be frozen for future use. About two weeks is required to determine whether the pregnancy is achieved.

GIFT (gamete intrafallopian transfer) and zygote intrafallopian transfer (ZIFT) are other two procedures of IVF. GIFT is a method of egg harvesting as with IVF and mixing with sperm, then injected into the fallopian tube where the fertilization occurs. In ZIFT, before transferring the eggs into the fallopian tube, the egg is fertilized with sperm in the laboratory. Women who at least have one functioning of fallopian tube can undergo this procedure.

Chocolate Cyst Removal

Chocolate Cysts are a type of ovarian cyst which is also known as endometriosis. These are cysts in ovaries occur by endometrial tissue that is similar to the lining of the uterus. The word "Chocolate cyst” is derived from the physical appearance of the cyst. The old dried blood makes the color of the cyst as brown. It can vary its size from 0.5 to 8 inches in diameter. if the cyst breaks, contents in it will enter into the pelvic cavity and ovaries. This causes pelvic pain and some of the pelvic organs may stick together. If it happens with ovaries and fallopian tubes it can result in infertility. If the chocolate cyst is affecting women during their reproductive period it may cause pelvic pain associated with menstrual cycle.
